I made this silver ring with an opal from a local miner who wanted to give a gift to a friend.  He left the stone with me and I contacted the friend who texted me a photo of an eternity ring design that she liked and this is the result.

Neville wanted to give his daughter one of his opals, we chose the two most suitable for a ring and she chose the one she liked best then had a look at my website for design ideas and decided she wanted something very simple.  This is what I made.

This White Cliffs opal was so pretty I left the back of the ring open so it could be seen.

A family who have a camp and claim on the field here came up for a few weeks and dug and sieved their old mullock heaps and I got to cut the better pieces which included a belemnite (see my opal fossils page under Stories for more info on belemnites), a lovely big specimen piece some solid opals and some doublets.  I made some earrings from one of the pieces which was big enough to cut into two pieces.  Finding earring pairs is so difficult as every piece of opal is unique, so it is great when you can get two stones from the one piece.

The finished earrings and a lovely opalised wood specimen they also found in the mullock.
