Opal mining

Opal mining is very different to other types of mining, such as gold.  Most opal miners are a small scale operation and most of the time for most of them there is a hell of a lot of dirt shifting and very little colour.  Opal mining is an expensive business, machinery and diesel being the main costs, thats after the government takes a hefty annual fee.  You have to be totally obsessed with opal to pay out all that money and work your butt off in harsh conditions.  Its not hard though, we're all obsessed and addicted to opal in the opal family.  The following story gives you a little idea of what opal mining is all about, enjoy!
